Quick Tips to Safeguard Your Business During the Holidays

Holiday shopping may look a little different this year. That doesn’t mean you can let your guard down. Consider these quick tips to prepare in advance to secure your business and ensure a peaceful and profitable holiday season.

Add security for compliance

If your business is retail or otherwise has frequent visitors or guests, you want them to comply with your COVID-19 requirements. Unfortunately, you may encounter those who refuse basic protocols and can become confrontational. Don’t task your employees to confront people about masks, social distancing and other measures. Hire temporary security to handle it professionally while your employees focus on their jobs.

Lock down the premises

You may have fewer people working over the holidays. Keep this smaller crew safe by reducing the area that needs guarding. Cordon off the parking lot to condense available space to an area easier to keep an eye on. Limit entry to a single door where a guard is posted to check IDs. Provide security with an updated list of who is authorized to be in the building.

Rely more on cameras

If you are closed or have less staff over the holidays, you can reduce the number of in-person guards on site. If you are busier over the holidays because employees are working overtime or you have more customers or guests present, remote video guarding may be the solution. Cameras can be security’s eyes and ears where they cannot be present.

Check camera coverage

Remote video surveillance is only as good as your equipment. Check that you have enough cameras, they are placed strategically and that they are in good repair. If you are not currently using infrared cameras, consider adding them. If you are in an area that can anticipate bad weather over the holidays, infrared is especially important. They are effective in the dark and in limited visibility conditions such as fog or snow.

Choose remote video guarding

If your cameras are being monitored by on-site guards, you’re only getting part of the picture. Remote guards won’t be distracted by holiday activities, they don’t have to leave the desk for patrols and can take breaks as needed so they don’t lose focus. Remote security monitoring centers are experts in keeping guards fresh and alert even on long shifts, so you’ll never need to worry about your business over the holidays.
