How Does Artificial Intelligence Detect Weapons?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been rapidly evolving in all fields and industries, but especially remote video monitoring and security industries. AI is used within integrated security solutions to boost efficiency and effectiveness by providing real-time analysis, automating routine tasks, and predicting future incidents based on historical data. These additional analytics offer insights to remote monitoring service providers to proactively secure commercial and residential properties.

New AI technology has been created to detect weapons, including guns and knives. AI weapon detection can enhance public safety and prevent potentially deadly security incidents. VirtuGuard™ Remote Video Monitoring

VirtuGuard™ is a remote video monitoring provider for commercial and residential businesses in the United States. From remote Command Centers, Agents monitor client properties for suspicious, unwanted, or illegal activity, and react to the event in real-time. VirtuGuard™ utilizes several AI technologies to provide the most effective, proactive security solution possible.

To provide a more preventative approach, VirtuGuard™ has adopted AI weapon detection technology to enhance our remote guarding solution.

New Weapon Detection AI Technology

VirtuGuard™ has weapon detection capabilities to enhance protection at client properties. In the event that a person enters a business with a weapon, detecting it instantly is critical. AI weapon detection technology works by continuously analyzing live video streams from all security cameras throughout a property. Advanced algorithms can identify visual patterns that signal a firearm is presented, like specific shapes, trigger outlines, or grips. This AI utilizes advanced behavioral analysis to detect suspicious, abnormal behaviors, like drawing a weapon.

Weapon detection AI, when combined with the human eyes and discernment of remote video monitoring, can prevent tragic events from escalating and protect a business’s staff, patrons, and passersby from harm. VirtuGuard™ can apply this technology to a business’s existing surveillance cameras, making the service more affordable and accessible.

AI Gun and Knife Detection

One of the technologies we utilize, Scylla, can be applied to different types of cameras in diverse environments and conditions, including moving backgrounds and high traffic areas. A zoom-in and tracking algorithm can detect weapons even at long distances, and most positive detections occur within one second of visibility. Scylla offers Gun Detection AI and Knife Detection AI to greatly reduce assaults and robberies.

The system is trained to detect a wide range of firearms, including small firearms (pistols and revolvers) and larger firearms (rifles, machine guns, and shotguns). This AI cannot detect concealed weapons, so additional security measures like metal detectors may be needed to ensure no firearms enter a property.

Syclla gun detection technology ensures a low false-positive rate, and when a gun is detected, an alert is sent to the VirtuGuard™ Command Center for Monitoring Agents to respond to.

What Happens When a Weapon is Detected?

When this AI detects a weapon, an alert is received in the VirtuGuard™ Command Center. Monitoring Agents then review the detection frame and a short video clip to verify whether a gun is present. If Agents determine the alert to be a false positive, the alert will be dismissed, and no further action is taken.

When a threat is verified, Agents then take instant action. During client onboarding, VirtuGuard™ creates detailed site protocols for each business and property based on their specific concerns. An appropriate response may include alerting onsite staff and dispatching local law enforcement to the threat.

Agents remotely provide incident details to staff and police, communicating what the threat is, what the suspect looks like, and any other relevant information. Onsite staff can use this information to guide other employees and patrons to safety. Providing these details to law enforcement can prepare them to respond to the scene appropriately and effectively. VirtuGuard™ can remain on the phone with police as a situation continues to unfold, so there are no surprises or additional threats to responding officers.

This ongoing communication can empower responding officers to quickly locate suspects and secure the scene. Knowing the exact location and description of armed suspects can prevent further danger when officers respond.

Pair VirtuGuard™ with AI Weapon Detection

Pairing VirtuGuard™ remote video monitoring services with AI weapon detection technology offer an added layer of protection to your business’s security solution. Remote video monitoring aims to prevent any unwanted or illegal activity, rather than reacting to an incident after it occurs, which is common for most security services.
