What I Do Matters: Curtis Troy

What I Do Matters: Curtis Troy

Curtis Troy has been a Security Officer with BOS Security for 9 months, primarily working at a residential community in Watkinsville, Georgia. Prior to starting a career in security, Curtis worked as a police officer in Massachusetts for 20 years from the 1970s to the 1990s. Of his prior law enforcement experience, Officer Troy says, “It helps you know what to look for. You look down at the side of houses. You recognize cars in the driveways. You get to know people, that’s the important thing. You know the people in the neighborhood, even know the dogs they walk. And I enjoy it; it brings back old times.”

What I Do Matters Because…

“There’s a lot of people that need extra eyes on the outside. We feel secure with the Air Force, the Marines, the Navy, and such. And we also feel secure with the police and the Security Guards that we don’t think about. It gives you an extra sense of security, especially where I work.”

The Most Rewarding Part of My Job Is…

To know I didn’t have any break-ins in my neighborhood. There’s a big pond over there, so that there’s no four-year-old who has walked into the pond. And that my night ended like it started: peacefully.

What Are You Most Proud of at Work?

“Being there every day. That’s the most important thing. Showing up every day.”

Officer Troy offers this advice for people looking to enter a security career: “For an elderly person like me, it’s a very good supplemental income. And for a younger person, it’s a steppingstone into a police department job, Sheriff’s department job, or just longevity in this career. It’s a good job. I enjoy it. I never thought I would do it forty years ago.”
