At the Tupelo Regional Airport (TUP), BOS Security is contracted to provide Transportation Security Officers to screen flyers and their belongings. At approximately 7:20 one morning, a bag was pulled for additional screening by TSO Samantha Sudduth. TSO Sudduth sent the bag for additional screening due to a cluttered area in the bag.
The property search officer, STSO Heather White, searched the bag, finding a stun gun. The TSOs notified Law Enforcement Officers who took control of the stun gun. STSO White completed the bag search and sent the bag back through the X-ray machine to ensure there were no other prohibited items inside the bag.
The flyer was cooperative and explained that she forgot the stun gun was inside of the bag. The LEOs escorted the passenger outside of the checkpoint so that she could properly store the stun gun.
After the stun gun was correctly stowed, the passenger could board her flight and continue her travels without further issue. The swift action of STSO White and TSO Sudduth resolved the potential safety threat without impacting operations or attracting media attention.
