What I Do Matters: Laura Lamberston

Laura Lamberston, also known as Agent 1009, has worked in the VirtuGuard™ Command Center for just over two years. Prior to starting her position in the Command Center, Laura spent two weeks working as a physical Security Guard. This firsthand experience enables Laura to better communicate with the BOS Security Officers and relay vital information to lieutenants and administrators.

However, this is Agent Lamberston’s first job in the security sector. She is a retiree with over twenty years of experience as a heavy-duty manufacturing plant manager. Her experience working with technology in her previous career prepared her to work in the VirtuGuard™ Command Center, but there was still a learning curve.

Laura said, “Not coming from the security industry, I had a pretty big learning curve. There’s so much technology involved, and I thought I was a pretty good tech person, and I felt pretty comfortable with my capabilities. But there’s so many different software that we use with the different clients that we have.”

In the two years since entering this career, Agent Lamberston has quickly become highly trained in surveillance technology. Her strengths however are her abilities to communicate effectively and quickly with BOS Security Guards, clients, and administrative staff.

What I Do Matters Because…

“My job is important because we here at the Command Center are a critical link between our guards and not only our clients and their management staff, but the police department as well. We provide critical support, visual support, so not only do they feel that we have their backs, but they don’t feel they’re alone at the site.

“We also support our lieutenants when they’re in the field. If one of their guards calls the lieutenants, they can call us, and we can try to find a replacement for them. We can also provide information back to administrative staff. We’re in the thick of everything that goes on here.”

The Most Rewarding Part of My Job Is…

“I think the most rewarding part of my job is when I can go home at the end of my shift and I can hand it off to the next shift with no issues. I like to be able to wrap things up, because every shift has things come up, and I like to be able to resolve those issues before I go home, regardless of what that issue is because nobody wants to walk into a mess when they come to work.”

What Are You Most Proud of at Work?

“I’m really proud that I’ve developed a rapport with the guards, with the lieutenants, and the administrative staff. I think the people that I work with respect me. They know that they can depend on me, that I’m here and that I’ll do a good job for them. And they can rely on my discretion.”

Interested in a Career in Security?

For people who are interested in beginning a career in security operations, Agent Lamberston advises, “Have patience with yourself to learn, to be open to new experiences. To not be afraid to learn something new and to suck at something.”

To work in the VirtuGuard™ Command Center is to continuously learn and expand your knowledge of security technology and software. Embracing continuous education and having the patience to adapt to new technologies is critical.
