While completing a walking tour of a parking deck attached to a luxury student apartment complex at approximately 1:19am, BOS Security Officer Jeremiah Parks observed suspicious behavior. He observed three young males near a white Ford Bronco Sport and when the males observed the Security Officer approaching, two began running away on foot.
Meanwhile, the third male was attempting to put the car in reverse. Officer Parks asked the male if that was his car, and he then began to run away on foot. At this time Officer Parks called the local police to report the entering auto in progress and provide details on the suspects and the direction they were last seen running in.
Dispatchers assigned the call to an Officer who began to drive in that direction. The Officer observed three suspects matching the description and activated the blue lights before exiting the vehicle and instructing the males to stop. Two of the suspects immediately began running away in a different direction while the third suspect continued walking in the same direction.
The Officer continued to approach the third suspect and instruct him to stop walking away, however the male continued walking and telling the officer that he did nothing wrong. The Officer reported that the male was concealing his right hand in his pants or hoodie pocket, which prompted the Officer to pull his taser and alert the male that if he did not stop walking, he was going to be tased.
After failing to comply, the Officer deployed his taser, bringing the suspect to the ground before placing him in handcuffs. Meanwhile, other Officers were able to detain the other two suspects shortly after the third suspect was detained.
Additionally, other Officers met with the owner of the vehicle that the suspects entered. They reported that nothing was taken from the vehicle that they observed at that time. The same Officers interviewed Officer Parks for reporting purposes.
Two of the suspects were ultimately charged with theft be taking motor vehicle, entering auto, and obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer. The third suspect was a minor, resulting in his charges being sealed.
BOS Security Officer Parks handled the entering auto incident promptly and appropriately. He intervened without escalating the situation and immediately called local law enforcement for assistance. Quick action and dedication to de-escalation tactics are emphasized during BOS Security training and help our Officers become more dependable when securing client properties.
