A city-owned parking deck in downtown Athens, Georgia utilizes both VirtuGuard™ remote video monitoring and onsite BOS Security services to protect the site and its patrons. Physical Security Officers patrol the deck and monitor the entry and exit gates overnight but Virtual Guards monitor the location 24/7 from the VirtuGuard™ Command Center.
Below is an incident that was safely and effectively resolved through collaboration between onsite Security Officers, VirtuGuard™, and local law enforcement.
VirtuGuard™ Observes Suspicious Male in Parking Deck
After 10 o’clock one night, VirtuGuard™ was conducting a proactive virtual patrol of the parking deck when Virtual Guards observed a male on the top floor of the deck. VirtuGuard™ contacted the onsite BOS Security Officer, who was already aware of the male and was responding to the location.
VirtuGuard™ continued to monitor the scene as the Security Officer approached the male who appeared to be highly intoxicated. The male proceeded to take off his shoes and climbed onto the ledge before laying down on the ledge of the seventh floor.
The Officer ordered the male to get off the ledge and he refused. Concerned that the man could fall from the ledge, either accidentally or intentionally, the Officer quickly pulled him off the ledge. The male attempted to get back on the ledge, but the BOS Security Officer would not let him.
The male became aggressive with the Officer and began arguing and charging at him. In the VirtuGuard™ Command Center, Agents were simultaneously calling 911 and the BOS Security Supervisor to request their assistance at the scene. The Officer disengaged from the male but remained nearby as he also called 911.
A few minutes later, the BOS Security Supervisor and two Athens-Clarke County police officers arrived at the parking deck. The police officers spoke with the male and calmed him down. They were able to escort the male off the premises and deescalate the situation.
