5 Things You Should Not Do on a Property Protected by VirtuGuard™ Remote Video Monitoring

VirtuGuard™ remote video monitoring is a full-service security solution by BOS Security. With over thirty years of experience in the security industry, we know the best approach to security based solely on your business’s needs and concerns.

VirtuGuard™ can address common security and business concerns, like trespassing, and more niche issues, like compliance with company policies and legal regulations. This article outlines the 5 most common things you should not do on a property protected by VirtuGuard™.

What Is VirtuGuard™ Remote Video Monitoring?

VirtuGuard™ is an interactive remote monitoring or virtual guard service offered by BOS Security. The VirtuGuard™ Command Center has access to live video surveillance streams and recorded video from your locations through surveillance cameras and other security infrastructure installed on your property. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other advanced video analytics can be applied to security cameras to alert VirtuGuard™ Agents to activity and events that occur on your property in real time.

Additionally, Agents can conduct random or regularly scheduled proactive virtual patrols of your property in tandem with AI alerts or in place of them. When a VirtuGuard™ Agent observes suspicious activity at your property, they react accordingly to your site-specific protocols that are developed when you onboard with VirtuGuard™.

VirtuGuard™ can activate voice commands through two-way audio speakers to directly engage with guests or intruders at your property. If escalation is necessary, Agents can alert onsite Security Officers or notify local police and emergency services after visually verifying a disturbance at your property.

Don’t Try These 5 Things at a Site Protected by VirtuGuard™

VirtuGuard™ monitors for unwanted or illegal activity at your property, 24/7/365. Agents can respond quickly and effectively, whether a response requires two-way audio interaction or police response. Keep reading to see how VirtuGuard™ responds to 5 common incidents that may occur at your business.

1. Trespassing

Trespassing on commercial property can be a nuisance or a serious risk to your business. Someone entering your property without permission can occur both within and outside of operational hours. If individuals who have been previously barred from the premises return or if someone loiters in front of the property during business hours, they can make staff and customers feel uncomfortable or unsafe while entering the building.

Trespassing after business hours often leads to vandalism, theft, and other violations. VirtuGuard™ can detect trespassers at your business by conducting regular virtual patrols or by responding to AI alarms that are triggered by motion or activity. In this example, VirtuGuard™ observed an unauthorized individual in a luxury student apartment complex in the early morning hours during a virtual patrol. VirtuGuard™ Agents notified the onsite courtesy officer and called local law enforcement to report the incident and request assistance. Agents guided the Officers to the trespasser’s exact location and escorted the individual off the property, preventing further trespass to tenants’ units and property damage.

Another risk that trespassing poses to your business is liability for injury that may occur, even if the injured party is trespassing. This is especially a concern for active construction sites. VirtuGuard™ provides remote video monitoring for several construction sites and has intervened in incidents that have posed a risk to both expensive equipment and injury liability. In this example, two young males trespassed on an active construction site during the early morning and proceeded to start climbing a crane. VirtuGuard™ Agents notified a nearby BOS Security Supervisor and local law enforcement to remove the trespassers and prevent injury. Upon their arrival, the two males tried to run but were eventually apprehended and arrested.

VirtuGuard™ monitors a property at all times to catch trespassers and remove them before further risk is threatened.

2. Vandalism

Vandalism can require an expensive fix and even take a hit on your business’s reputation. Some vandals may stick to defacing physical property, but others can be intent on causing extensive and expensive damages. Vandalism most often occurs when your business is closed, and vandals expect to go undetected and unidentified.

VirtuGuard™ is proactive and seeks to prevent vandalism from occurring at all. If vandalism occurs, VirtuGuard™ can identify and assist property owners in holding the responsible parties responsible. In this example, VirtuGuard™ observed a male resident acting suspicious in the mail room of a luxury student apartment complex. This client elected not to install two-way audio speakers throughout the property, against the recommendation of VirtuGuard™. Agents were not able to directly interact with the male in that moment but tracked his movements back to his apartment. Further investigation found that the resident urinated in the mail room and the property managers were able to fine the male with the information provided by VirtuGuard™.

3. Theft

Internal and external theft occurring at your business has consequences for your company’s profits and your paying customers’ willingness to return. Theft can eat away at your revenue and profits. In response, you may have to increase the prices on products and services you offer to your customers to avoid taking a greater financial hit.

VirtuGuard™ monitors for both internal and external theft at retail stores and other commercial businesses. Agents observe shoppers and look for signs of shoplifting and alert your staff or loss prevention officers of suspicious individuals.

Additionally, VirtuGuard™ can monitor your employees’ behavior for signs of internal theft. This might include unnecessary openings and closings of cash registers and safes, inappropriate use of back doors, and adherence to store policies that are meant to prevent internal theft.

4. Illegal Dumping or Littering

Illegal dumping and littering are frustrating and inconvenient for commercial properties. Excess garbage can increase operational costs for businesses and visible trash can decrease the traffic your business sees. VirtuGuard™ can monitor your trash and recycling areas and take steps to prevent and stop illegal dumping before it causes your business further problems.

In this example, a commercial shopping center was facing illegal dumping on a daily basis.  VirtuGuard™ monitored the dumpster areas and installed two-way audio speakers directly interact with unauthorized parties. The property is also staffed with a physical Security Officer during business hours to help mitigate the problem.

5. Disregarding Policies and Procedures

At your business, your staff’s failure to adhere to company policies and procedures and to follow legal regulations can result in liability concerns and legal consequences. Whether it is not following loss prevention policies or failing to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, VirtuGuard™ can remotely audit your business to ensure that all procedures and regulations are being followed.

A remote video audit is conducted through existing surveillance cameras. VirtuGuard™ Agents observe employee behavior and practices and report on the way your business operates. A third-party audit removes the risk of bias that would skew a true report on the way your business functions.
